Project work part 3
General guidelines
- The assignments must be solved in groups of two (the same group of two as in parts 1 and 2).
- All answers must be the students' own and original
contribution.
If the answers consist of copy pasted material from the book, lecture slides, Internet or other students'
answers, the student group will not pass the project work and
other measures may also be taken.
- D-line is Wednesday April 28th 2004 at 12:00. Reports may be
returned in exercise class or into the box under the notice board in the
G-wing.
- Reports may be returned in English or Finnish.
- You may ask questions concerning the
simulation during exercise classes on Wednesdays from 12-14
o'clock (S5) on 24.3., 31.3. and 21.4. By default questions asked by e-mail will not be
answered, it is assumed that students use the exercise class for asking questions.
- If necessary a FAQ page will be created on the web page
concerning the problems:
http://www.netlab.hut.fi/opetus/s38188/2004/harj/FAQ.shtml
In the grading it is assumed that you know what is mentioned in this FAQ.
- The exam can be taken only if all the project work parts have been successfully passed by the
group.
- Grading results of part 3 of the project work will be announced
latest on Friday May 7th 2004.
Grading
- Grading results
- Grade of 0, 1, 3 or 5. Note that if you do not pass part 3, you may not take the exam and you may thus not finish the course.
General guidelines-ns2
- Part 2 will be carried out using the ns2 simulation tool.
http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/
- Weekly times are reserved from the UNIX workstation classrooms
http://www.ee.hut.fi/unix/
of the department (B201 and B215) for you to do your
assignment Wed 12-18 during the period 10.3.-28.4.
- The simulation program is installed on the SunOS 5.8 sun4u architectures in room B215.
You can use command uname -srm to verify the
architecture.
Using ns2
- Login to a workstation, where ns2 is installed.
- To load the program to your own path, give the command
source /p/gen/courses/S38/S38.188/use
The script should tell you what UNIX shell you are using and what
command you should give next (same source command but file
use replaced with use.xxx). If you have a bash
shell, then you give the source command with the file
use.sh.
- Run the simulation file saved as xxx.tcl with the command ns xxx.tcl
- In order to save disk quota use a tmp directory for temporary files and compress your output files with
gzip.
