Project work part 2 FAQ
- First read the introduction to part 2, but it is not recommended to try to create the code step by step
following the introduction. Just use the example codes
- To start doing the simulations, first you need to get the example code files from the course web page
to your home directory.
Run the simulation with command
ns code1.tcl
Then change the parameters as required in each question by editing the code file.
- The exercise is based on the topics covered in lecture "TCP congestion control"
and corresponding parts of the book.
- When you are asked to explain what happens in the picture you have drawn about the
congestion window, it is not necessary, or advisable, to write pages and pages. Something
like 10 lines of text is perfectly enough, if you make the correct comments
- The simulator automatically returns the values of packet arrivals and packet drops.
These are given as:
TCP #arrivals #drops
UDP #arrivals #drops
All #arrivals #drops
Where TCP is what we are mainly interested in and UDP is the background traffic.
- In question 2 you don't need to worry about the parameters that were changed in question 1.
As it is said in page 11 of the introduction, you can comment the ten lines under the line
#TCP-RFC793edu-parameters
And remember to comment the line setting slowstart treshold to 1
Then just change the type of TCP connection that is used. The parameters are for TCP/RFC793edu agent only,
so they are needed in question 1 and again in question 3 when option (iii) from question 1 is used.
