Project works

There are three compulsory project works during the course project work part 1, project work part 2 and project work part 3. Project works deal mainly with TCP. Part 1 is a collection of short exercises on TCP and related topics. Part 2 is a simulation project, where students are made familiar with TCP congestion control and the simulation tool ns2. Part 3 is a more independent simulation project, where students study TCP congestion control under different scenarios.

All parts of the project work must be done with a passing grade in order for a student to pass the course. The final grade of the course is 25% the project work grade and 75% the exam grade. The group work grade is mainly based on part 3. From part 3, you can obtain a grade of 0, 1, 3, or 5. For part 1 the maximum points are 22, 12 points are required to pass. If you get 17 or more points, your passing grade from part 3 is increased by one. Therefore the possible grades for the group work are 0, 2, 4, or 6. Part 2 of the group work is graded as pass or fail.

The grades for the project works are valid only during the course in question, i.e. one year. You may not take the exam of the course if you have not passed the project works.

All project works are done in pairs (you cannot change pairs during the course).

Timetable

Exercise classes are on Wednesdays 12-14 o'clock in lecture hall S5, but classes are not every week. The exercise class is of type group reception and the assistant is there to answer your questions on the group works. The main language of the class is Finnish, but you always get guidance in English if you ask for it.

All important dates are summarized in the schedule below. The dates are fixed and due to the tight schedule, project work d-lines will not be moved even if due to the assistant being sick an exercise class is cancelled.
